An Anti-terrorism Court in Islamabad has extended physical remand of Pakistan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder’s sisters, Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan to police.
Judge Tahir Abbas Supra heard the case related to terrorism charges against Khan’s sisters and other PTI leaders. The court also issued arrest warrants for Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur and Amir Mughal.
Khan’s sisters and Asad Qaiser's brother, Adnan Khan, were brought to the ATC after completing their one-day physical remand. During the hearing, the judge ordered all irrelevant persons to leave the court and directed PTI lawyer Niazullah Niazi to begin the arguments.
Niazi informed the court that they received the FIR via WhatsApp on Sunday. The arrest was made on October 4, after which they filed a bail petition.
“On October 6, we were provided with an FIR and Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan were produced in court. They were presented before the court after 2 days, which is illegal,” he added.
Upon the court’s inquiry, the prosecutor revealed that they did not recover anything from the spot of the Khan Sisters’ arrest but stated that they needed the remand for technical investigation instead of recovering anything.
Aleema Khan said she was kept in a police station for 10 hours after her arrest and then taken to the police line. “There were two women with an age range of 80 years who were arrested with us and fell ill during the night,” she said.
Following the arguments, the court reserved its verdict on the plea for physical remand. The court later extended physical remand of Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan for one day, while Adnan Khan was sent for a seven-day physical remand. All were handed over to the police.
Additionally, the court has issued arrest warrants for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Amir Mughal in a case filed under terrorism provisions at Kohsar police station.
