Attacker killed as police thwart firing incident at Engr Mirza’s academy

An attempted attack on religious scholar Muhammad Ali Mirza was foiled in Jhelum on Sunday after armed assailants opened fire outside his academy, leaving one attacker dead and a police officer injured.
According to initial reports, the incident occurred at around 10:45am at the academy located in the Jhelum Cantonment area. Two unidentified attackers allegedly opened intense fire from across the सड़क, with one of them reportedly lying on a green belt and targeting the academy’s front gate as well as police personnel deployed at the site.
Police responded promptly, returning fire and thwarting the attackers’ plan. During the exchange, one assailant was killed on the spot, while the other managed to flee, according to preliminary information.
A police officer sustained a bullet injury while responding to the attack and was shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities said bullet marks were also found on the academy’s gate.
Officials confirmed that Muhammad Ali Mirza, along with academy staff and students, remained unharmed.
Security in the area has been tightened, and a search operation is under way to trace the second suspect. The body of the deceased attacker has been taken into custody, and identification efforts are ongoing.
