The Balochistan High Court (BHC) on Thursday dismissed a petition that sought high treason proceedings against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder, Imran Khan.

A two-member bench of the BHC, consisting of Chief Justice Hashim Khan Kakar and Justice Shaukat Rakhshani, delivered the ruling. The petition had been filed by Advocate Amanullah, who accused the former prime minister of unconstitutionally dissolving the National Assembly.

Advocate Amanullah had requested the court to initiate proceedings against Imran Khan under Article 6 of the Constitution, which pertains to high treason.

During the hearing, Imran Khan’s defense lawyer challenged the jurisdiction of the BHC, arguing that the case did not fall within its legal authority. The defense contended that the BHC was not the appropriate forum to address this matter.

After considering the arguments regarding jurisdiction, the high court ultimately declared the petition non-maintainable, thereby accepting the defense’s position. Consequently, the court disposed of the petition, ruling that it could not proceed with the case as it fell outside its jurisdiction.
