Punjab government has imposed restrictions on visiting prisoners in Adiala Jail by October 18, a move that forestalls the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) leaders to meet incarcerated party founder Imran Khan.
The decision was taken by the provincial government ahead of the Shanghai Corporation Organisation (SCO) meeting, set to be held in Islamabad from October 15 to 17.
The restrictions also prevented the former prime minister from meeting his counsels and his family members till October 18.
According to the sources, the restriction was imposed due to security concerns, as the SCO’s meeting will be attended by foreign dignitaries.
However, the security beefed up in Islamabad and Rawalpindi as opposition party PTI was staging protests against the incarceration of Imran Khan.
On the other hand, security concerns rose after an explosion near Jinnah International Airport Karachi, leaving three foreigners dead and over a dozen sustained injuries.
Apart from this, Pakistan is hosting the English cricket team for a three-match test series, which is being played in Multan.
