Barrister Ali Zafar Khan, a nominee for the chairmanship of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has expressed zero interest in obtaining a top position in the party.

Talking to a private news channel, Zafar said that he would be unable to focus actively on the chairmanship as he is "busy dealing with many cases including Toshakhana, the Un-Islamic nikkah case, the May 9 riots, Al-Qadir trust, and others".

Refuting Sher Afzal Marwat's statement regarding Barrister Gohar's performance as chairman, Imran Khan's lawyer said: “Gohar was doing well, he was performing his duties sincerely."

Earlier, Marwat said that Gohar was removed from the chairmanship due to his incompetence and bad performance.

"You have to be active to run the party office as head, but Gohar couldn’t do this," PTI seniour vice-president added.

However, Zafar also denied the impression of Gohar's termination, saying “This is not true that Gohar was ousted from the position.”

“I am already overloaded with PTI's court cases," he said, adding, “Chairmanship requires time that’s why we would like to reconsider this decision.”

Zafar admitted that he was recommended by party founder Imran Khan, but "a bundle of cases against PTI can blur his focus from the party’s activities".

On the other hand, Marwat said that the party's nominee for the chairmanship post, Barrister Ali Zafar, is not mentally prepared for the top post.

Talking to a private news channel, the PTI leader said the final decision regarding Zafar would be made by party founder Imran Khan.

Marwat added that the reason behind Zafar's hesitation to accept the party chairmanship is his "busy schedule" due to PTI's court cases.

Earlier, PTI had nominated Barrister Ali Zafar for the coveted post of the party as the former ruling party is set to hold fresh intra-party polls on March 3.
