CJP Qazi Faez Isa, SC judges reportedly get threatening letters with suspicious powder

Following the unsettling events involving suspicious letters sent to Islamabad High Court (IHC) judges, similar incidents have now been reported involving Supreme Court (SC) judges, including Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa, deputy inspector general (DIG) operations confirmed this development before IHC's Chief Justice Aamer Farooq during Wednesday's hearing.

The DIG Operations disclosed that four Supreme Court judges, including CJP Qazi Faez Isa, Justice Athar Minallah, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, and Justice Aminuddin Khan, have received such letters containing threatening messages and a powdery substance suspected to be anthrax on April 1. These letters have been handed over to the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) for further investigation.

Furthermore, it was revealed that another letter, sent by a woman named Gul Shad, was received by the senior-most Justice of the Supreme Court, Mansoor Ali Shah.

During the hearing, the DIG Operations informed the high court that all envelopes containing the letters and powdery substance have been sent for analysis to the lab. Additionally, the police department has written to the postmaster general to address concerns regarding the legibility of stamps on the envelopes.

The police officer also confirmed that judges from the Lahore High Court (LHC) have also received similar letters on the same day.

Chief Justice Aamer Farooq questioned the officer about the steps taken by the police department, including obtaining CCTV footage and identifying the origin of the letters from which post office they were sent.
