CM Maryam bars authorities from rolling out red carpet during her visits

Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the CM office for her visits to any district of the province.

Principal Secretary Sajid Zafar issued the letter to the concerned district administrations and police.

CM Maryam instructed officials not to close shops and markets as part of security measures during her visits.

"There shall be no extravagant arrangements, like tenting, carpeting, etc at the site. If any such arrangements are warranted due to any seasonal compulsion, the same must be austere and simple," the letter read.

"The Traffic police shall ensure the smooth flow of traffic and avoid imposing blockades on any routes," the letter added.

The directions from CM Punjab came following backlash over her red-carpet welcome during her visit to the house of Asif Ashfque, who lost his life after his throat was slit by a kite string while riding a motorcycle on March 22.
