Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Friday announced compensation for the legal heirs of 35 passengers, who were killed in bus crash in Iran.

The announcement from the provincial came on the directions of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

He said Rs5 million each would be given to the families of the deceased while the injured would get Rs1 million.

The tragedy struck on August 21 when a passenger bus carrying Pakistani pilgrims met with a fatal accident in Iran. 

At least 35 people were killed and 25 others were wounded in the accident, according to local media.

Iranian media reported that the ill-fated bus, operated by a private company, was en route from Iran to Iraq when the brakes of the vehicle failed in Yazd.

Almost 53 passengers, mostly from Ghotki and Larkana, were travelling in the bus.

The dead bodies of the deceased will be repatriated to Pakistan through a special aircraft.

Pakistani pilgrims were travelling to Iraq to attend the Arbaeen or Chelum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A).

The Iranian and Pakistani foreign ministries expressed their condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims.
