Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Sunday apologised over the delay in construction work on University Road, saying that the government understands the hardships faced by commuters and is working to complete the project as soon as possible. He assured that the mixed traffic lanes on the road will be reopened within three months.

Speaking to reporters during his visit to the BRT Red Line project site, the chief minister said the Sindh government is fully aware of the daily problems caused by the ongoing construction and is determined to ease the situation for the public without further delay.

He announced that the tender for the main corridor of BRT Red Line Lot-II will be issued again. He also said that he has already held talks with the Director General of the Frontier Works Organisation, who has assured him that construction work at the site will restart within the next two to three days.

CM Murad said that the section where mixed traffic is affected stretches for around 12 kilometres. He expressed confidence that this portion of the road will be completed within the promised three-month period.

The chief minister said that people of Karachi expect better performance from the government, and admitted that although the contract for Lot-II was awarded four years ago, the standard of work carried out so far has not been satisfactory.

He said the government is now taking direct responsibility to ensure faster progress. He added that construction work will continue even during the Eid holidays so that there are no further delays.

During his visit to Lot-II, the chief minister reviewed the progress on site and confirmed that work has resumed. He further stated that construction speed will be increased in the coming days, with work shifting to continuous day and night shifts to meet deadlines.
