Islamabad: The court has acquitted Senator Azam Swati in two cases related to his controversial tweets.

The hearing was held at the District and Sessions Court, Islamabad, where cases had been registered against Swati under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).

Additional Sessions Judge Afzal Majoka announced the verdict, clearing Azam Swati of all charges in both cases.

Two witnesses each testified in the two separate cases. The defense counsel cross-examined one of the witnesses during the session. The prosecution had earlier submitted lists of six witnesses in each case but later dropped four from both lists.

The judge directed the defense lawyers to complete the cross-examination of the remaining witnesses at the next hearing. The court then adjourned further proceedings till October 27.

The cases were registered by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) against Senator Swati under charges related to his social media posts.
