Karachi felt earthquake tremors of magnitude 5.2, in the early hours of Tuesday. Panic broke among the residents of a residential building in Lyari’s Naya Abad Liaquat Colony when reports of cracks emerging on it came out.

Residents of Baba Arcade reportedly evacuated the building and gathered in open areas for safety. The Edhi Foundation was alerted by the residents regarding the building situation. They responded swiftly by sending ambulances, volunteers, police, fire brigade units and Rescue 1122 teams to the scene and carried out an initial inspection of the emergency site.

Residents were advised to stay clear of the building as a safety measure until advised otherwise.

As media coverage came on television and social media, confusion spread about the structure’s current durability. However, some residents of the building claimed that false news was being spread by some ‘’building mafia’’ in hopes of exploiting the situation for personal gains, like illegal takeover of land.

Authorities have requested the residents to remain calm and rely only on verified information from them and then act accordingly.
