Authorities investigating the murder of 7-year-old Sarim in Karachi’s North Karachi area are facing challenges due to complications with DNA matching, it emerged on Wednesday.

Investigators revealed that Sarim’s body had been submerged in water for an extended period, which led to deterioration of the body and the DNA samples taken from it.

Officials stated that the damage to the DNA samples has made it difficult to match them with potential suspects, which has significantly delayed the investigation.

They acknowledged that the primary reason for the lack of progress in identifying the killer is the failure of the DNA samples to match.

To address the issue, authorities are considering seeking the expertise of specialised professionals to enhance the DNA samples.

In addition to the DNA analysis, police are intensifying efforts on other technical evidence, including human intelligence and alternative investigative methods.

On Tuesday, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Central visited Sarim's home in North Karachi and conducted another inspection of the crime scene.

Police authorities also met with Sarim’s family to update them on the case's progress, informing them that important evidence had been found during the investigation, and that the killer would soon be apprehended.

Authorities are also awaiting a chemical analysis report, which is expected to provide crucial insights for the investigation. Once the chemical and DNA reports are received, further progress is expected in the case.

Additionally, forensic and post-mortem reports will be reviewed, and once all evidence is collected, further questioning of detained individuals will be conducted.

Investigators are also planning to send questions to the medical legal officer once the DNA and chemical analysis reports are available.

In a breakthrough, investigators found Sarim’s school cap and ball from a nearby tank, which were later identified by the boy's parents. Based on this new evidence, the investigative team has recommended forming a specialized medical board to further examine the case.

It is important to highlight that the post-mortem report indicated that Sarim had been subjected to rape, torture, and ultimately murder after being abducted.
