Dr Umar Adil arrested over his derogatory remarks against woman journalist

YouTuber Dr Umar Adil has been detained for using inappropriate language against a female anchor, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) confirmed the development. 

The female anchor person also affirmed his arrest by posting on X, she claimed that Dr Umar Adil had been arrested after her legal request.

The spokesperson in FIA said that the cybercrime wing of FIA arrested Dr Adil from Lahore after the complaint from the anchor as she said Dr Umar used derogatory words.

Following the registration of the first information report (FIR), the agency arrested him and initiated a probe into the matter. 

YouTuber Dr Umar made the remarks in a podcast that triggered the social media debate, and he received backlash from journalists and followers.

According to the reports, Dr Umar Adil talked against female anchors in Zohaib Butt’s podcast, and the host and analyst specifically mentioned Gharida Farooqi’s name and engaged in obscene conversations on the digital media platform YouTube. 

However, the journalists and media practitioners condemned the incident and recorded a protest at the Network of Women Journalists for Digital Rights (NWJDR).

In a statement issued on Thursday, saying, the demonstrators said that Dr Adil made a sexist statement against Gharidah Farooqi and other women working in the media termed it condemnable and demanded that law enforcement agencies should arrest him.
