The reckless dumper driver who deliberately hit a traffic police vehicle on Karachi's Shahrah-e-Faisal while flouting traffic rules has surrendered to authorities. His dumper truck has also been seized.

A video of the incident went viral on Saturday, showing the driver accelerating at high speed and ramming into the police vehicle as officers attempted to stop him. The reckless driving endangered the lives of other commuters on the busy road.

Following the public outcry, the traffic police issued a statement saying they had contacted the President of the Dumper Association, Liaquat Mehsud, and others to facilitate the driver’s arrest.

Initially, they sought time to produce the driver, but later failed to fulfill their commitment.

In response, the traffic police launched a citywide crackdown on heavy vehicles. As part of the operation, challans were issued to 142 dumpers, heavy fines were imposed, and 27 vehicles were impounded. However, only one driver was arrested.

Police officials confirmed that the crackdown against heavy vehicles violating traffic laws will continue without interruption.

During questioning, the arrested driver claimed he fled the scene because he was being chased by motorcyclists and panicked. He also alleged that even the police were unable to control the arsonists pursuing him.

His vehicle has been seized and further legal action is underway.

The traffic police car was persistently trying to chase and halt the dumper, which was transporting construction material. However, the dumper did not stop.

As the police car attempted to overtake the dumper, the dumper driver collided with the police vehicle and continued without stopping.

In the video, a voice can be heard, stating that the traffic police had been trying to stop the dumper for more than half an hour but were unsuccessful.

The person who recorded the incident stated that the vehicle also struck multiple cars as it fled from the traffic police.
