Former Chief of Army Staff, General (Retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa, has been injured after falling at his residence.

According to family sources, General (Retd) Bajwa fell in the washroom of his home at around 4:30am on Tuesday morning.

Sources said he sustained injuries to various parts of his body, including a head injury, as a result of the fall. He was immediately shifted to hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

Family members confirmed that General (Retd) Bajwa is being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU), and doctors are closely monitoring his condition.

Bajwa served as Pakistan’s 16th Chief of Army Staff from November 2016 until November 2022. Commissioned into the Pakistan Army in 1980 through the 16th PMA Long Course, he was commissioned into the Baloch Regiment and went on to hold key command and staff positions during his military career.

Before becoming army chief, he served as Inspector General Training and Evaluation at General Headquarters and also commanded the Rawalpindi Corps (X Corps), one of the army’s most significant formations.

He has also held appointments at the United Nations as part of peacekeeping missions.

In August 2019, former PM Imran Khan granted him a three-year extension in service, which was later endorsed through legislation passed by parliament.

General (retired) Bajwa completed his extended tenure and retired on November 29, 2022, handing over command to his successor, General Asim Munir.

Since his retirement, General (R) Bajwa has largely remained out of the public spotlight.
