Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir held a high-level meeting with Iranian Armed Forces Chief of General Staff Major General Mohammad Bagheri at the General Staff Headquarters in Tehran, as part of his ongoing official tour to the region.
The meeting, according to a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Tuesday, underscored mutual commitment to bolstering defence ties amid a complex and evolving regional security environment.
During the meeting, the two senior military leaders exchanged views on a range of regional security issues, placing special emphasis on enhancing military-to-military cooperation between Pakistan and Iran. Key topics included:
Strengthening border security mechanisms to address shared challenges such as terrorism, smuggling, and cross-border militancy.
Transforming border areas into economic corridors through increased trade and infrastructural cooperation.
Contributing to long-term regional stability through deeper defence collaboration and diplomatic engagement.
The ISPR statement described the interaction as cordial and constructive, reflecting the two countries’ growing convergence on strategic and economic issues.

Upon his arrival at the Iranian military headquarters, Field Marshal Munir was given a formal ceremonial welcome, which included a guard of honour by a smartly turned-out contingent of the Iranian Armed Forces — a gesture that underlined the warmth and respect between the two neighbouring militaries.
In addition to his meeting with General Bagheri, COAS Munir, accompanied by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, also held discussions with Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Syed Ali Hosseini Khamenei and newly elected President Masoud Pezeshkian.
These high-level engagements aim to deepen bilateral political, economic, and defence relations amid a changing regional order.
The army chief is currently part of a high-profile delegation led by Prime Minister Sharif on a multi-nation visit to Turkiye, Iran, and Azerbaijan — all key partners in Pakistan’s regional diplomacy.
The trip is seen as a strategic outreach to strengthen ties with Muslim-majority nations, with particular focus on economic cooperation, regional connectivity, and collective security frameworks.
