Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Asim Munir is expected to travel to Washington in the coming weeks to meet US President Donald Trump, Reuters reported, citing sources.
This would be his third meeting with Trump in six months and is likely to centre on discussions about the proposed Gaza mission.
The wire service said that the CDF is facing a major challenge as the United States urges Islamabad to contribute troops to a proposed force for stabilising Gaza, a move that could trigger strong reaction in Pakistan.
Quoting the sources, it said that Washington is pressing Pakistan to play a role in the plan.
Trump has outlined a 20-point proposal for Gaza that includes deploying a force drawn from Muslim-majority countries to oversee a transition period focused on rebuilding and economic recovery in the Palestinian territory, which has suffered extensive destruction during more than two years of Israeli military operations.
Several countries remain cautious about joining the mission, particularly because it would involve efforts to disarm Hamas. Governments fear such involvement could pull them deeper into the conflict and provoke anger at home among pro-Palestinian and anti-Israeli segments of their populations.
