Independent Senator Faisal Vawda claimed that former Director-General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lieutenant-general (retd) Faiz Hameed was also involved in hatching plans to attack military installations on May 9 last year.
He made the claims while talking to two private news channels, Geo News and Suno TV, separately.
During the interview, the host asked Vawda's opinion on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan's involvement in the May 9 vandalism.
"Some close aides were also involved," the former PTI stalwart replied.
"Who were they," the host cross-questioned, in response Vawda without wasting any time said that "it was Gen Faiz."
When asked if the former spyman should be punished for his alleged involvement in the May 9 attacks, Vawda replied, "He should be hanged."
Imran Khan and his party have been facing several charges following the May 9 riots.
The former prime minister was arrested by Rangers personnel in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case on May 9, 2023.
The veteran politician was in the IHC's biometric verification department when he was apprehended by paramilitary men.
Following his arrest, several military and civil installations were vandalised by PTI workers and supporters, which prompted state institutions to initiate a crackdown on the former ruling party.
A total of 102 persons were arrested for their involvement in the attacks on military establishments, including the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, Jinnah House in Lahore, PAF Base Mianwali, and an office of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) in Faisalabad.
Later, many PTI leaders took a break from politics or left the party condemning attacks on military installations.
However, the PTI founder termed the May 9 riots as a "False Flag operation" to topple his party.
Currently, the former prime minister and his close aides are incarcerated at Adiala jail on several charges.
