Gilanis surpass Zardaris with most lawmakers from same family

The Gilani family has set a record with the most numbers of lawmakers in Pakistan’s parliament history from the same family after Ali Qasim Gilani secured a victory on NA-148 on Sunday’s by-poll. 

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate and son of the Senate Chairman  Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani won by-elections in NA-148 of the National Assembly’s constituency. Gilani’s son collected 83,250 votes against 51,572 votes of PTI-backed Sunni Ittehad Council’s Taimur Malik Altaf.

However, Yusuf Raza Gilani’s three sons, Syed Ali Qasim Gilani, Syed Ali Mosa Gilani, and Syed Abdul Qadir Gilani, are already members of the National Assembly, and one Syed Ali Hyder Gilani is a member of the Punjab Assembly.

Meanwhile, Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani is serving as Senate Chairman.

However, following Ali Qasim Gilani’s victory, the Gilani family broke the record of President Zardari family, whose daughter Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, son Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and he himself are members of the lower house of the parliament.

It is pertinent to mention here that Ali Qasim Gilani won their father’s vacant seat.
