In a landmark decision reflecting national pride and strategic resilience, the Government of Pakistan has extended the tenure of Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu, recognizing his exemplary leadership during recent security threats—particularly the success of Operation Bunyān-un-Marsoos.
The announcement was made following a high-level federal cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, where the premier lauded the operation as a defining moment in Pakistan’s defense narrative.
He congratulated the nation on the overwhelming success of the military campaign, which was launched in retaliation to an unprovoked Indian assault on May 6–7, 2025, that targeted civilian areas and resulted in innocent casualties.
The cabinet strongly condemned the violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and praised the strategic response led by Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir.

His decisive leadership was credited with steering the country through this critical juncture and ensuring a comprehensive military triumph dubbed "Ma’rakah-e-Haq" (The Battle for Truth).
In a historic move, the cabinet approved the promotion of General Syed Asim Munir to the rank of Field Marshal, following Prime Minister Sharif’s recommendation and subsequent consultation with President Asif Ali Zardari.
Further honoring the collective resolve and sacrifice shown during the operation, the government announced national honors for military personnel—including soldiers, officers, veterans, and martyrs—as well as for civilians who contributed to the success of Operation Bunyān-un-Marsoos.
