The Sindh government has approved the development of a modern terminal for trucks, trailers, and other heavy transport vehicles outside Karachi, with the facility planned for construction along the Northern Bypass.
A dedicated heavy-vehicle route will also be built from Karachi Port to the proposed terminal. Officials say the new track is intended to ensure smoother movement of freight traffic and reduce congestion caused by heavy vehicles inside the city.
Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the initiative would ease pressure on Karachi’s roads and help improve the overall transport and traffic system.
The decision was made during a Sindh Mass Transit Authority board meeting chaired by the minister.
Along with the terminal project, the board also approved the construction of a single-storey parking plaza near the Kadam Gah of Hazrat Ali (AS) in Hyderabad. The facility will be built on one acre of land and is expected to provide better parking arrangements.
In the same meeting, it was further decided that all future traffic signals across the province will be converted to solar-powered systems as part of efforts to modernize infrastructure and reduce energy consumption.
