The federal government has reportedly decided to prosecute Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan for inciting people against the state and its institutions through social media.
According to sources, the decision will take effect in Imran Khan’s case after receiving approval from the federal cabinet and the Ministry of Interior.
A summary for this decision has already been prepared for the cabinet's consideration.
The move is based on an inquiry conducted by the Federal Cyber Crime Wing.
According to sources, once the federal cabinet approves the decision, the former premier will be tried in a special Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC).
The trial is expected to proceed under Chapters 6 and 9A of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and other relevant sections. Approval from the federal cabinet is essential under Section 196 of the PPC, which permits legal action against the accused for various offenses.
On the other hand, Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, criticised the prolonged trial of her brother in the Jinnah House case.
She alleged that the ruling coalition had offered to release the PTI Chairman from jail in exchange for organising a sit-in at Sangjani, on the outskirts of Islamabad.
Speaking outside Adiala Jail after a hearing in the May 9 unrest case, Aleema Khan claimed that the massive turnout at the November 24 protest had caused panic within the government.
According to her, the authorities summoned Barrister Gohar and proposed shifting the sit-in to Sangjani in exchange for Imran Khan’s release from prison.
