A special court has rejected the bail petition of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in Toshakhana reference II.

Shahrukh Arjumand, a judge of a special court, heard the petitions of the former prime minister and his spouse seeking bail in a new Toshakhana case.

“Imran Khan has acquired Rs70 million jewellery in Rs2.9 million,” said the prosecutor Zulfiqar Abbas Naqvi while informing the court.

He added that the NAB contacted Saudi Arabia through the foreign office and got information about the value of the Bvlgari jewellery set, consisting of a necklace, earrings, a bracelet, and a ring.

“With the help of Secretary Toshakhana, Imran Khan has fixed the Rs5.8 million market value of the jewellery set, and instead of submitting a state gift to Toshakhana, he has kept that his own,” the investigation report quoted an official of Toshakhana.

Requesting the court to reject the bail petition, prosecutor Naqvi said the case against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi had already been proven.

However, defence lawyer Salman Safdar said the Toshakhana reference II was similar to the previous reference.

“The case should end after the Supreme Court decision that restored the NAB amendments, the case has been transferred to the special judge central, but the suspects have not been granted bail,” he added.

Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi’s counsel requested to accept the petitions of his clients and granted them bail.

However, after hearing the argument, the court reserved the verdict.

Subsequently, while pronouncing the reserved verdict, the court rejected Imran Khan Bushra Bibi’s bail petition.

It is pertinent to mention here that the details of a new reference against the couple surfaced on August 20.

The details claimed that the Saudi Crown Prince had visited Pakistan from May 7 to 10, 2021. He gifted the couple a jewellery set consisting of a ring, bracelet, necklace, and earrings, and the former prime minister retained a set illegally.
