Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has reportedly removed party leader Sher Afzal Khan Marwat from the key party position and ordered him to suspend social media activities, sources said on Wednesday.

According to the sources, the decision came after the statement made by the PTI lawmaker gave the impression of a lack of consensus among the party leaders.

Sources revealed that Marwat’s name was also removed from the group responsible for finalising the names of individuals allowed to meet the PTI founder in Adiala Jail.

Additionally, Marwat was instructed to dissolve his social media team as well, said sources, adding that the said decisions were made on the recommendation of the PTI core committee.

Last week, a meeting of the core committee converted into a verbal confrontation where members described Marwat as responsible for damaging the party image by making heated statements.

Firdous Shamim Naqvi was also among the critics who said that outspoken tendencies were causing internal division within the party.

Core committee members emphasised the importance of maintaining party discipline to establish narratives, which they claimed that Marwat had undermined with his remarks.

However, the continuous objections from the members of the core committee led the meeting to a verbal confrontation which ended after the intervention from party chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Ali Mohammad Khan and Naeem Panjutha to ease the tensions.

More recently, Marwat and Ali Muhammad Khan had entered into a feud over allegations of a smear campaign against former skipper Shahid Afridi, allegedly propagated by PTI's social media team.
