Imran Khan set to make first public appearance today after nine months

Incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan's supporters will get a chance today (Thursday) to see their leader's first glimpse after nine months.

The former prime minister is all set to virtually appear in a hearing of a case related to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) amendments in the Supreme Court.

Earlier on Tuesday, the apex court directed the federal and Punjab government to arrange a video link facility for the jailed deposed premier to allow him to present his arguments in the case.

A five-member larger bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa, comprising Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi, will resume hearing of the case today.

The federal government had filed an intra-court appeal against the SC's 2023 verdict that voided some of the NAB amendments passed during the previous Shehbaz-led setup.

In September last year, the apex court declared 9 out of the 10 NAB amendments as null and void with regard to the petition filed by Mr Khan challenging the NAB amendments.

The SC also ordered to restore the graft cases against political bigwigs such as Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif, former president Asif Ali Zardari, ex-prime ministers Yousaf Raza Gillani, Raja Pervez Ashraf and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

The cases that were restored include the Toshakhana reference, the LNG reference and the rental power reference.

However, the veteran politico will present his arguments before the court today.

The Adiala jail sources said that the arrangements for Khan’s video link appearance have been completed on the apex court's order.
