The Cyber Crime Wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has decided to probe Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan for sharing the "Hamood ur Rahman Commission Report" on his microblogging site X.

The said report was a judicial inquiry commission that assessed Pakistan's political-military involvement in East Pakistan from 1947 to 1971 when Bangladesh came into being.

The investigation body has approached a Judicial Magistrate's court in Islamabad seeking approval to initiate an inquiry against the former prime minister.

In the letter, the FIA has asked permission to inquire Mr Khan at Adiala jail in Rawalpindi, where he is serving his sentences in different cases.

The post was shared by the official handle of the veteran politician on May 26.

"Every Pakistani should study the Hamood ur Rahman Commission Report and get to know who was the true traitor, General Yahya Khan or Sheikh Mujibur Rahman," the caption of the post read.

Reacting to the letter, the 72-year-old politician said that he would only become a part of the inquiry in the presence of his lawyers.

"And the above allegation is Absolute Nonsense," he added in his response.

However, PTI acting chairman Barrister Gohar said that the post was not shared by Imran Khan as he is currently incarcerated in Rawalpindi jail.

"Imran Khan has nothing to do with this [post] because he did not see its content or other things. [The PTI founder] does not approve each and every video or context," Gohar said while talking to a private news channel.
