Amid heightened tensions following the Pahalgam attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), Pakistan's military responded to an "unprovoked ceasefire violation" by Indian forces along the Line of Control (LoC), according to security sources.
Officials said Indian troops initiated small arms fire in the Kiani and Mandal sectors during the night of April 29-30, allegedly breaching the 2021 ceasefire agreement.
In response, the Pakistan Army reportedly targeted Indian military positions, destroying multiple bunkers, including a post identified as Chakputra.
The military described the action as "measured and precise," emphasizing Pakistan's readiness to defend its borders.
The exchange comes amid a diplomatic standoff between the two nuclear-armed neighbours over the April 22 attack in Pahalgam that left 26 dead.
India has linked the incident to Pakistan, though Islamabad denies involvement and has called for an independent investigation.
India has since suspended several bilateral agreements, including the Indus Waters Treaty, and revoked visas issued to Pakistanis.
In retaliation, Pakistan expelled Indian diplomats, cancelled non-essential visas, and closed the Wagah-Attari crossing.
Security officials in Pakistan have accused India of escalating tensions through aggressive actions and rhetoric, while reiterating that Pakistan remains committed to peace but is prepared to respond to any violation of its sovereignty.
