Amidst severe nationwide internet service disruption, the government has expressed hope that the problem will be fixed by the end of September.
In a written response to the National Assembly, the Ministry of Information Technology said that the prolonged disruption occurred due to underwater cable damage, which is being repaired.
According to the Ministry, the error found in the configuration route of PTCL on July 31 was solved within a few hours.
The house was informed that the errors of February 2024, April 2023, November 2022, February 2022, and February 2021 were resolved within a few hours.
However, the offshore erosion near Karachi’s submarine has been suffering since June 17, and it caused a loss of 1500 Gigabytes per second.
The IT Ministry added that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued an SOP about the breakdown, according to which, the fault in the submarine cable to be reported to the PTA within two hours.
The PTA will issue a press release for public awareness if the damage severely affects the cable, and then the authority will mitigate the traffic and begin repairing the cable.
However, underwater damages require repairing ships, which need security clearance from law enforcement agencies.
The report added that the PTA received security clearance for two ships, and through the efforts, the authority saved months of security clearance for ships that have tight schedules and will take time to arrive.
