Iran, Pakistan set to enter ‘new strategic phase’, says envoy Reza Amiri

Relations between Iran and Pakistan are poised to enter a “new strategic phase,” Iranian Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam said, calling the Islamabad visit of Dr. Ali Larijani—a senior Iranian statesman and Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council—a historic moment for bilateral ties.

In a message posted on X, Ambassador Moghadam described Dr. Larijani’s trip as an “extraordinary visit” that marks “an important turning point” in the decades-old relationship between the two neighbouring countries.

“This historical milestone marks an important turning point,” he said, adding that the “strong and tested relations” between Iran and Pakistan are now being elevated to a higher level of strategic cooperation.

The envoy noted that rapidly shifting global geopolitical dynamics and emerging regional challenges have created a greater need for closer policy coordination between Islamabad and Tehran.

“In view of the rapidly changing global situation and the new dimensions emerging in our regional environment, there is a need to formulate more strategies between the two countries,” he observed.

According to Moghadam, the demand for deeper engagement—whether political, economic, or security-related—is stronger than ever. “In these circumstances, the need to further expand bilateral relations between the two countries has increased more than ever.”

He expressed confidence that Dr. Larijani’s high-level meetings with Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership will play a central role in strengthening long-term cooperation.

“This important visit will play a significant role in the timely and meaningful fulfillment of this goal,” the ambassador said.

The visit is being widely viewed by analysts as part of a broader regional recalibration, with both countries seeking enhanced coordination amid heightened Middle East tensions and evolving security challenges.
