The Islamabad district administration has sealed several offices of the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) after the party’s recent violent protests across Punjab and the federal capital, official sources confirmed on Thursday.
According to sources, TLP offices in Barakahu, Sowan, and other areas of Islamabad were closed by district authorities as part of a security operation to maintain law and order.
The move came hours after the Punjab government announced its decision to approach the federal government to impose a ban on what it described as an “extremist party.” The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in Lahore, which approved “extraordinary measures” to uphold the state’s writ.
Earlier this week, law enforcement agencies launched a crackdown on TLP demonstrators and dismantled their protest camp in Muridke, leading to violent clashes and dozens of arrests.
The confrontation erupted after TLP supporters attempted to march toward Islamabad in defiance of Section 144, imposed to prohibit public gatherings.
Authorities said one police officer was killed, while 48 personnel were injured, including 17 who sustained gunshot wounds. At least three TLP workers and one passerby died, while 30 civilians were also reported injured during the unrest.
The violent demonstrations also left around 40 government and private vehicles torched, and several shops were set ablaze, prompting a nationwide security review.
