At least 376 individuals have lost their lives in road accidents across Karachi during the first four months of 2025, according to alarming data released by rescue sources on Saturday.
The casualties encompass a broad spectrum of the population, with 289 men, 40 women, 37 boys, and 10 girls among the victims.
In addition to the fatalities, the report highlights that 5,503 people sustained injuries, including 4,379 men, 809 women, 242 boys, and 73 girls.
Notably, heavy vehicles have been identified as a significant factor in these statistics, accounting for 120 fatalities this year alone.

A detailed breakdown revealed that dumpers were linked to 26 deaths, trailers to 47, water tankers to 26, Mazda trucks to 10, and buses to 11.
In comparison, 2024 recorded 775 deaths and 8,111 injuries from road accidents, indicating a troubling trend in traffic safety in the city.
The distressing report followed the recent deaths of four motorcyclists in separate incidents on Friday.
Additional IG Karachi, Javed Alam Odho, noted earlier this year that institutional collaboration is essential for effective management of traffic-related concerns.
He highlighted that ongoing development projects exacerbate congestion, calling for the Transport Department to play a crucial role in tackling these challenges.
