The Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) of the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) has apprehended a police constable, Rana Kashif, who is an alleged mastermind of a luxury car theft ring operating in Karachi’s upscale areas.

The police said that Kashif's gang was found involved in multiple high-profile car snatching cases, including the theft of a luxury vehicle belonging to a prominent TV actress and another car from Ferozabad.

The AVLC also recovered the drug and weapon from the possession of the suspect. According to the officials, the arrested constable confessed to snatching at least two dozen cars with his accomplices, all of which were sold in Balochistan.

Kashif was serving in the foreign security cell while simultaneously engaging in these criminal activities. However, his illegal operations came to light after two cars were snatched on June 26, 2024, and October 7, 2024, in Korangi and DHA, respectively, leading to his arrest.

The aforementioned cars were recovered from Quetta after a police encounter, where police arrested one of Kashif’s accomplices, Ayub.

Despite the arrest of an accomplice, they made another robbery attempt on February 6, 2025, at 26th Street, Khayaban-e-Muhafiz, DHA, where the gang robbed the car at gunpoint. The car belonged to an actress. However, it was recovered from Ferozabad.

Police confirmed that raids are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang and recover more stolen vehicles.
