Karachi records hottest day of 2024 with mercury soaring to 42.5 degrees

As the sun continues to scorch the country, Karachi recorded its highest temperature of the year so far.
On Wednesday, the Pakistan Meteorological Department reported that Karachi reached a sweltering high of 42.5 degrees Celsius, with the average citywide temperature remaining at 41.5 degrees Celsius. Gulistan-e-Johar was the hottest area in Karachi, also hitting 42.5 degrees Celsius.
The intense heatwave extended beyond Karachi into Sindh. Moen Jo Daro, Larkana, and Jacobabad experienced temperatures soaring to 50 degrees Celsius. Dadu reached 49 degrees, while Sukkur hit 48 degrees, and Sahiwal recorded 46 degrees.
Punjab also faced extreme heat, with Sargodha, Faisalabad, Multan, and Lahore all recording temperatures of 45 degrees Celsius.
Rahim Yar Khan and Hyderabad both reached 46 degrees Celsius, with a heat index of 49 degrees. Peshawar recorded 40 degrees, while Islamabad experienced 39 degrees Celsius.
