The Sindh Education Department has announced that all educational institutions in the province will reopen tomorrow, January 1, 2025, following the winter break.
According to a spokesperson for the department, both public and private schools and colleges in Sindh, which typically observe winter vacations from December 21 to 31, will resume academic activities as scheduled.
This announcement comes amid ongoing protests by the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) in Karachi, demanding justice for the Parachinar killings. The protests, which have been ongoing for over a week, have resulted in major disruptions across the city.
Today, police launched a crackdown to disperse the protesters, managing to clear several roads. However, many areas, including Safari Park on University Road, Kamran Chowrangi, Lasbela, Abbas Town, and others, remain closed for traffic.
Tensions escalated at Numaish Chowrangi and M.A. Jinnah Road, where protesters threw stones at police and set six motorcycles and a police check post on fire.
In response, law enforcement fired tear gas shells and used batons to disperse the crowd. Several protesters were arrested and taken to local police stations.
