The Karachi traffic police have announced that beginning October 1, traffic violations on major thoroughfares will be monitored through cameras instead of on-ground police personnel.

E-challans, complete with photographic evidence, will be delivered to violators at their residential addresses.

According to traffic police, citizens will be required to pay fines within 21 days. A 50 percent discount will be offered if payment is made within 14 days.

However, failure to clear fines within 21 days will result in the penalty amount doubling.

Authorities further stated that if challans remain unpaid for three months, the violator’s driving license will be suspended.

In cases where fines are not cleared within six months, the individual’s Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) will also be blocked.
