The citizens in the port city are expected to get relief from the scorching weather as rain and thunderstorm are likely to hit Karachi today (June 26), the Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD) said.

According to the Met office, the monsoon currents from the Arabian sea and Bay of Bengal and a low pressure of air from south of Indian Gujrat are likely to entre eastern parts of Pakistan from June 26.

Under the influence, Mithi, Umarkot, Mirpur Khas, Sanghar, Tando Allahyar, Badin, Thatta, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Shaheed Benazirabad, Nausheroferoze, Khairpur, Dadu, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore and Larkana are expected to receive thundershowers.

The megapolis is also likely to witness rain with isolated heavy rainfall, as per the advisory issued by the weather department.

The rain spell will start from June 26 and will remain in action till July 1 with occasional gaps across Sindh, the Met office predicted.

Karachi has been in the grip of hot weather for a week with over 30 people succumbing to the heatwave.

On the other hand, weather analyst Jawad Memon said that there are 60-65 chances of rain in the metropolis.
