In its general session held Monday at the Council Hall of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), chaired by Murtaza Wahab, the council unanimously passed seven resolutions, four from the agenda and three private motions.

The meeting began with condolences and fateha for the 3-year-old boy who tragically died after falling into an open manhole in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.

Key resolutions approved include: a joint venture between KMC’s Estate Department and Zubair Associates for vertical paid parking on the third floor at Bolton Market in the Old City area; and leasing of a four-acre vacant site, Plot D-19 at the Gulshan-e-Ghazi Bus Terminal in Baldia Town’s katchi abadi, for parking use.

The Council also approved the PC-I cost estimates for the rehabilitation and beautification of roads and footpaths around various commercial hubs and business districts across Karachi, aiming to improve infrastructure in busy urban zones.

In a socially-oriented move, the Council passed a private resolution to institute long-term and sustainable measures for persons with disabilities. The plan includes monthly rations, access to education and essential services, and the setting up of institutions to train and employ disabled individuals.

Separately, the Council offered condolences over the death of veteran politician Lal Bakhsh Bhutto, approving the renaming of Gutter Baghicha Treatment Plant in his memory.

Finally, a resolution was passed to begin immediate repairs on both sides of Business Recorder Road, from Guru Mandir to Lasbela Signal, by bringing it under KMC’s list of 106 roads slated for maintenance in the public interest.

Council members from different parties also voiced their concerns and opinions, though the session was adjourned indefinitely rather than concluding on a fixed next date.
