The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has launched a free solar panel scheme aimed at providing solar energy systems to underprivileged households across the province.

According to details, the initiative will benefit 130,000 families registered under the Ehsaas Program and Benazir Income Support Program.

The first phase will see 32,500 recipients selected through a lottery system, with priority given to areas lacking electricity and those most affected by energy shortages.

Special consideration will also be given to orphans, widows, disabled individuals, and members of the transgender community.

Successful applicants will receive a solar panel kit, including a controller, light bulbs, a fan, and a battery.

KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur stated that the program aims to address electricity issues in the province, ensuring energy access for marginalised communities.

He emphasised that distribution would be conducted on merit, adding that Dera Ismail Khan residents had submitted the highest number of applications.

“We have instructed all MPAs that selection will be done through a transparent lottery. Performance should be the real competition, and KP has always led in that regard,” Gandapur remarked.
