The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has stated that power outage issues affecting pumping stations have been resolved and that water supply across the city has returned to normal.

On Friday, frequent electricity disruptions impacted the city’s water pumping system, leaving citizens facing a severe water crisis.

In its statement issued today, KWSC said that close coordination was maintained with K-Electric during the crisis to restore water supply, and officials confirmed that “water services across the city are now back to normal.”

KWSC added that “every possible measure is being taken to further strengthen the water supply system in the future.”

Karachi experienced an intense water shortage last November when prolonged power outages disrupted pumping operations across the city.

According to KWSC, the city faced a total shortfall of 884 million gallons of water due to electricity interruptions.

The statement noted that the Dhabeji pumping station was the worst affected, with a 132-hour and 20-minute outage causing a shortfall of 424 million gallons of water, while a 146-hour outage at Dumlottee resulted in the loss of 111 million gallons.

It further said that the North East Karachi pumping station alone recorded a shortfall of 335 million gallons, while relatively smaller stations saw lesser disruptions  with Hub and Pipri stations losing 6 million gallons and Gharo station 2 million gallons.

According to officials at major pumping stations, multiple hours of operations remained suspended throughout the month due to recurring power outages.

The spokesperson warned that “measures must be taken to ensure a stable and uninterrupted power supply,” as frequent cable faults have already caused significant damage to pumping machinery.

The statement added that proposals include alternative feeders, standby cables, and technical upgrades to protect major stations.
