Lieutenant General Muhammad Asim Malik has been appointed as the new Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), the military's media wing said on Monday.

Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum will remain the DG ISI till September 29 while Lt Gen Asim Malik will take charge of the post on September 30.

According to ISPR, Gen Malik is currently serving as an adjutant general at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.

"During the course of his military career, Gen Malik has served in the Balochistan infantry division and commanded the infantry brigade in Waziristan," the ISPR statement said.

The new spymaster was also awarded an “honorary sword in his course”.

Gen Asim had also served as the chief instructor at the National Defence University and as an instructor at the Command and Staff College Quetta.

The news DG ISI holds a graduate degree from Fort Leavenworth in the United States and Royal College of Defence Studies in London.
