Lt Gen Asim Malik is Pakistan's first DG ISI with a PhD degree

Lieutenant General Muhammad Asim Malik is the first Director-General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) in Pakistan to hold a PhD degree.
His academic achievement is proof of his exceptional understanding of international relations, particularly between Pakistan and the United States, which was the focus of his doctoral research at the National Defence University (NDU) in Islamabad.
Lt Gen Asim Malik also commanded the Infantry Division in Balochistan and the Infantry Brigade in Waziristan.
He had also served as Chief Instructor at NDU and Instructor at Command and Staff College Quetta.
The armyman had held a key position in the Directorate of Military Operations, showcasing his vast expertise in strategic and operational matters.
Internationally recognised for his military prowess, Lt Gen Asim Malik is a graduate of esteemed institutions.
The new DG ISI holds a graduate degree from Fort Leavenworth in the United States and Royal College of Defence Studies in London.
The new spyman comes from a distinguished military family. His father, Ghulam Muhammad, was also a Lieutenant General and served as Corps Commander in Rawalpindi.
Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum will remain the DG ISI till September 29 while Lt Gen Asim Malik will take charge of the post on September 30.
