The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation has begun major maintenance project targeting Karachi’s water transmission system and resolving issues that hamper daily water distribution in Karachi.
The maintenance work will be carried out from December 24 to December 27, according to officials. The accumulation of mud and silt, overtime, has majorly impacted the flow of water, reducing the volume reaching the Gharo Pump House and affecting the efficiency of the city’s overall water supply network.
The desilting operation is necessary to maximize operational efficiency, protect infrastructure and ensure efficient transmission, particularly during high demand.
Pumping and water transmission activities will be suspended during maintenance schedule. Residents of affected localities are advised to prepare for temporary water shortages. These areas include Ibrahim Hyderi, Malir, Landhi, Shah Faisal Colony, Sindhi Goth, PAF, SPL, PIA and the 9th Mile area near Karsaz.
The city receives nearly 650 million gallons of water per day; however, officials estimate supply may temporarily drop to about 620 million gallons during the maintenance work.
KW&SC noted that this water project is essential for long-term reliability and the citizens are expected to cooperate for any inconvenience created due to the undergoing work. It has also been assured that teams will work continuously to complete the project within the scheduled time.
