Senator Faisal Vawda has responded to the sentencing of former DG ISI, Lt General (R) Faiz Hameed, saying that the May 9 cases are still pending and the outcome for the political party involved is already “written on the wall.”
Reacting to the development, Faisal Vawda said his earlier statement had proven correct, as Faiz Hameed received a 14-year rigorous imprisonment sentence rather than the death penalty.
He added that the verdicts in the May 9 cases are yet to come, in which “destruction was caused and damage was inflicted on the state, politics, the judiciary, and democracy,” along with attempts to seize control of the media.
According to him, the decision has made it clear that “no one is above Pakistan,” and the principle of accountability has now been firmly established.
Vawda said the minimum punishment in the May 9 trials is 14 years, and the political party involved, referring to PTI and its founder, will face the consequences for the violence, the loss of lives, and the damage caused to national institutions, martyrs’ memorials, and public properties.
He said he had repeatedly warned them that there would be no return from such actions.
He further stated that even their own man’s trial was not stopped, something unprecedented in the country’s history.
The real issue, he said, had long been the lack of accountability, and Field Marshal Asim Munir has now set the foundation for that, beginning with his own institution.
It may be noted that former DG ISI Lt General (R) Faiz Hameed has been sentenced to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment.
