Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's plane used Pakistani airspace while returning to India from Poland, sources from the civil aviation sector revealed on Saturday.
According to the details, Modi's plane entered Pakistan's airspace at 10:00am and remained within the country's boundaries for 46 minutes before entering India at 11:10am.
The plane flew through the air control areas of Islamabad and Lahore, entering Pakistan from Chitral and exiting via Lahore into Amritsar, India, sources informed.
The unexpected use of Pakistan's airspace by the Indian PM has sparked interest as it is a rare occurrence due to the complex relationship between the two nations.
However, no permission was sought by Indian authorities before using Pakistani airspace.
Earlier in 2019, Former Prime Minister Imran Khan's government had turned down India's request to allow Modi's plane to use Pakistani airspace for his flight to Germany.
The then foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that the decision was made "keeping in view the situation in occupied Kashmir".
"A request was received from India saying that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeks to use Pakistani airspace for an overflight on the 20th to Germany and wishes to use the same for a return flight on the 28th," Qureshi informed in the video released on September 28, 2019.
"Keeping in view the situation in occupied Kashmir and India's attitude witnessed in the tyranny and oppression [suffered by Kashmiris] and the violations of rights in the region, we have decided not to grant this request.
