Rahim Yar Khan: President Asif Ali Zardari has pledged to strengthen and empower the people of Pakistan, declaring that he remains committed to national development despite political and economic challenges.

“I promise that I will build and improve Pakistan, make you strong and empowered, and then I will pray to Moula (Allah) to call me back to Him. Before that, I am not going anywhere,” he said while addressing local party leaders and former ticket holders from south Punjab.

Zardari said that being in South Punjab felt like being in his home province of Sindh, noting that both regions shared cultural traditions and a common heritage that reflected national unity.

Reflecting on his political journey, the president expressed pride in having spent nearly 14 years in prison, saying he endured incarceration with courage due to the steadfast support of party workers.

In an apparent reference to a political rival, he remarked that true leadership is tested during difficult times, contrasting his long imprisonment with others who, he suggested, had been unable to withstand pressure despite shorter periods in custody.

Addressing economic concerns, Zardari acknowledged inflation and financial hardship but attributed the situation to what he described as mismanagement by the previous four-year government.

He said the current prime minister was making sincere efforts to stabilise the economy and ensure effective governance.

On national security, the president pointed to tensions along international borders, saying hostile forces remained active. He criticised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, suggesting that recent setbacks had delivered a message across the border.

Zardari also praised Pakistan’s armed forces for their sacrifices in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, saying they had consistently defended the country with courage and faith.
