RAWALPINDI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has initiated an inquiry into the sale of substandard milk and yogurt.

The NAB's Rawalpindi office has issued a letter to the Chief Commissioner of Islamabad, summoning officials from the food authority and district administration.

These officials are required to appear before the anti-corruption agency on June 11 and 12 to address concerns regarding the quality of dairy products being sold.

According to reports, the summons were issued under Section 33c, and the officials will provide a briefing to NAB on the standards of dairy products.

The sale of substandard milk and yogurt in Pakistan is a significant issue, posing serious health risks to consumers.

Despite regulatory efforts, some vendors continue to dilute milk with water or add harmful substances to increase volume and shelf life, thereby compromising nutritional value and safety.

Consuming such adulterated products can lead to widespread health problems, including gastrointestinal disorders and foodborne illnesses.

Authorities must enhance the enforcement of quality standards, conduct regular inspections, and impose stringent penalties to prevent the sale of adulterated dairy products.
