The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has uncovered over 250,000 fake Pakistani Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs), most of which were allegedly issued to Afghan nationals in a latest drive against fake ID card holders.
A specialized software system detected that many of these fraudulent CNICs were obtained through agents who illegally added foreign nationals to the family trees of Pakistani citizens in exchange for large sums of money.
According to reports, these Afghan nationals were included in the family trees of Pakistani residents living in Pishin, Chaman, and Quetta.
Due to citizens’ lack of awareness, a significant number of foreigners were added without their knowledge. Agents reportedly charged hefty fees to incorporate Afghan nationals into Pakistani family records.
Sources said that the fake CNICs issued to Afghan nationals have now begun to be automatically blocked. Holders of these blocked identity cards have been instructed to visit NADRA offices for verification.
The reports further added that CNICs not verified within the specified timeframe will be permanently blocked.
