The National Assembly has completed the clause-by-clause approval of the 27th Constitutional Amendment, passing all 59 clauses with a clear majority.
The assembly session, chaired by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, saw Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar move the motion for the amendment.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister stated that the outlines of the 27th Constitutional Amendment had already been presented in the Senate, adding that “amending the Constitution and the law is an evolutionary process.”
He further confirmed that Justice Yahya Afridi will continue to serve as the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
Following his remarks, voting was held on each clause of the amendment, and all 59 clauses were approved.
The amendment received the support of 233 members, while 4 members voted against it.
The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) voted against the amendment.
With 233 members present on the treasury benches, the government comfortably exceeded the required 224 votes needed to pass a constitutional amendment, solidifying its position in the National Assembly.
