A one-day-old baby girl died after she slipped from the nurse's hands and fell to the ground at Holy Family Hospital in Rawalpindi, it emerged on Saturday.
An inquiry committee is formed to take action against the negligent staff.
According to reports, the incident occurred on August 23, when the infant girl fell to the ground in front of her mother, Amina Bibi. The baby passed away immediately after the fall.
The nurse placed the dead girl on the bench and disappeared from the hospital room.
Following the tragic incident, the grieving mother filed a complaint with the Medical Superintendent (MS), Dr Ijaz Butt, alleging negligence on the part of the nurse.
MS formed an inquiry committee, consisting of three doctors, including Dr Farooq Kasana, Dr Nadeem Malik and Professor Khansa. The inquiry committee will submit its report on Monday.
The medical facility head assured the family that strict action would be taken against whoever was found responsible.
In her complaint, the mother accused the hospital staff of mistreatment even before the delivery.
According to Amina Bibi, she arrived at the hospital for a checkup. An ultrasound revealed that her amniotic fluid levels were decreasing, after which she was admitted.
However, she alleged that the doctors did not conduct any follow-up examinations or prescribe any medications.
Despite being in pain, the woman was denied permission to use the bathroom.
Amina Bibi explained that she was not treated well by the doctor and accused the staff of misplacing her medical records and providing inadequate care.
The woman stated that she was transferred to the labor room when she began experiencing pain and alleged that the hospital staff delivered her baby on a chair.
