The alarming death toll of peacocks in Sindh's Tharparkar continues to rise, with over 100 reported dead in the last seven days due to scorching heat in the district.

The residents of the affected district said that the deaths occurred due to the intense heatwave sweeping across the rural areas, where temperatures have soared past 40°C, causing death of their peacocks.

However, Deputy Conservator of Forests Mir Ijaz Talpur also confirmed that the death of peacocks were reported in several villages within Tehsil Mithi, as well.

"We received reports this morning and have dispatched a team to Bhimasar village for emergency treatment and assessment of affected peacocks," he said.

Experts link the deaths to extreme weather conditions and environmental stress. The Deputy Director of the Poultry Department stated that peacocks are particularly vulnerable to rising temperatures and water scarcity.

"Due to climate change and dehydration, peacocks fall ill, and in many cases, this leads to death. The heat directly affects their brains, but timely treatment can save them," he explained.

The situation highlights the broader impact of climate change on wildlife in the arid Thar region, where water scarcity, habitat loss, and prolonged heatwaves are becoming increasingly common.

Officials say efforts are ongoing to monitor the situation and provide medical assistance to surviving peacocks, but conservationists are calling for long-term solutions to protect the region's fragile ecosystem.
